Turn Old Wheels Into Big Christmas Savings With Decathlon’s Autumn Buyback Scheme

Parents can unwrap extra savings in time for Christmas gifting with an extra 20% back on bike trade-ins until 2nd November

Decathlon is offering customers an additional 20% on top of the original BuyBack value on every bike traded in at store to help parents prepare for Christmas gifting and clearing space at home.

A wheelie good offer

The BuyBack bonus is available on bikes from now until 2 November, and aims to help families get ready for Christmas, whether they’re choosing a child’s first bike to introduce them to the wonders of cycling, moving up to the next size as they outgrow their old models or simply looking to make some money on items gathering dust.

Customers can return bikes of any brand to be assessed by Decathlon’s in-store team and then receive a gift card with the 20% additional bonus included.

The incentive does not only offer a boost to the wallet, but to the planet too, as pre-loved models are resold through the second-life scheme instead of going to waste, allowing parents to pick up a quality bike at an affordable price for their child this Christmas and ensuring there’s a smile on their face for the big day.

Last year, children’s bikes were among Decathlon UK’s best-selling products, highlighting their continued popularity as both practical and much-loved festive gifts.

“We know that children can quickly outgrow or fall out of love with their bikes, resulting in them rusting in a shed or even worse, going to landfill,” says Chris Allen, Sustainability Leader at Decathlon UK. “By offering a bonus on our BuyBack scheme, we are helping parents clear out their shed, gear up for Christmas by giving them additional funds to put towards a new gift, while pre-loved bikes get a second life with another child who’ll enjoy the ride just as much. Over 1,000 items were returned during this year’s Easter BuyBack promotion, and we hope to achieve greater success ahead of Christmas and make quality bikes more accessible for all families.”

How it works

Customers will need to be a Decathlon member to access the BuyBack offer. Sign-up is FREE and takes just a few minutes online via https://membership.decathlon.com/en-GB/

Membership unlocks a range of benefits - from rewards on every purchase to points for staying active - and it’s also where customers’ BuyBack gift cards will be stored for easy access.

After signing up, customers can follow three simple steps to trade in their bike and unlock their bonus:

  1. Get an estimate by completing the online assessment and booking an appointment at your local store: https://www.decathlon.co.uk/second-life/buy-back#/product_category
  2. Trade in your bike in-store for an in-person evaluation with a Decathlon team member
  3. Receive your gift card, with the additional 20% bonus included, ready to spend on your next purchase

By taking part in the BuyBack scheme, customers help extend the life of their bikes, with Decathlon preparing them for resale. The 20% bonus encourages customers to reduce waste and support the circular economy by giving them extra value on their trade-in.

Bikes were the first products included in the Buyback offering when it launched in 2023. The programme has since expanded to cover more than 50 items across 15 sports - from fitness gear and racquets to kayaks, paddleboards, golf clubs and camping equipment - helping perfectly good products find new homes.

So far in 2025, over 5,900 items have been traded in through the Buyback initiative - more than twice the number returned in 2024 - whilst refurbished ‘Second Life’ bikes now represent 10% of all bike sales, giving thousands of pre-loved models a new lease of life with happy new owners.
