August, 2024. Decathlon will offer a range of sustainability services at this year’s Reading and Leeds festival including an emergency tent repair, tent rentals and buyback scheme to help festival goers party more sustainably and save money whilst doing so.
The launch of a mobile repair service will make its debut this August, and offer on-the-go repairs for common tent issues. The service will fix a range of equipment mishaps, such as missing pegs, patch repairs, pole replacements and more, leaving more time to enjoy the festival experience and everything that’s on offer.
Festival-goers can easily contact Decathlon’s on-site Emergency Service through a WhatsApp number that will be shared on social media ahead of the festival and their location will then be pinpointed via the app for a quick fix to be made. Trained Decathlon staff will provide the complementary minor tent repairs with only a small cost for parts needed.
Whatsmore, Decathlon is enabling customers to rent tents for the duration of the festival to provide a cost-effective solution to what is an annual event for many. Over 100 tents are available online and start from as little as £15, with customers able to choose between store pickup or home delivery.
There will also be a handful of tents made available for emergency loan for those that find themselves in desperate need. Emergency loans can also be made online, but must be collected at a temporary pick up location at the festival site, where they can be returned after use.
“At Decathlon, we want to help people enjoy the great outdoors and festivals are one of the most popular ways to do that for many. By offering a tent repair service at Reading & Leeds, we not only help festival-goers make the most of their experience but also contribute to reducing waste and fostering a culture of reuse. It's all about enjoying the moment responsibly and leaving a positive impact on the planet.” Chris Allen, Sustainability Director at Decathlon UK.
Decathlon relaunched its ‘Tent Pledge’ campaign this festival season to encourage attendees to return their tents post-festival. 10 tents are eligible as part of the Tent Pledge, meaning customers can buy anything from the MH100 XXL 4-person tent to the original MH100 2 person tent at festivals. As a reward for not leaving a tent behind, participants will receive a full refund in the form of store credit, promoting the reuse of camping gear and reducing waste left on-site.
