DECATHLON to Open New Store Inside IKEA Croydon With a Spring Kick-off

New Decathlon store to open as a standalone unit with a dedicated customer entrance within the IKEA Croydon building.

The move creates a one-stop hub for sport and home, combining Decathlon’s technical excellence with IKEA’s home furnishing range.

Decathlon continues to innovate its physical retail presence, meeting customers where they shop to make sport more accessible.

Tuesday 24th February – Decathlon today announces plans for a new store to open within IKEA Croydon, and customers won’t have long to wait, with the doors set to open this spring.

The new Decathlon store will operate as a standalone unit with a dedicated customer entrance, spanning 1,188 square metres of retail space within the IKEA building. The move transforms the location into a unique one-stop shopping destination, allowing customers to discover new sporting passions and the joy of being active at Decathlon, alongside designing their dream home spaces at IKEA.

This pilot partnership sees heavyweights of retail coming together, sharing a commitment to offering well-designed, high-quality products at accessible prices to create a better everyday life – whether that’s on the playground, in the mountains, or in the living room.

Meeting Customer Needs

Reflecting the growing desire for personal wellbeing, Decathlon’s offer will provide a curated selection of 5,000+ products across hiking, camping, running, fitness, swimming, cycling and more. By bringing its technical excellence and iconic gear to this new hub, Decathlon aims to help customers pursue the activities they love.

The destination will also champion circularity, offering services such as Buyback to keep high-quality gear in play, alongside Click & Collect for a seamless shopping experience.

A New Chapter for Decathlon in Croydon

Plans will soon be revealed around launch activities and opening offers, delivered by a local team of passionate sports experts.

“At Decathlon, our purpose is to bring people together through sport to make wellbeing accessible for all. This is the next step in our retail journey to create a personalised local destination where our passionate team of sports experts can help customers rediscover or find their new favourite activity.” Mónica Cedres, London City Leader, Decathlon UK

“We first opened IKEA Croydon back in 1992, and since then, the way people shop has changed. At IKEA, we believe that our physical stores have a vital role to play, both as a shopping destination and as a source of inspiration for customers. The new Decathlon unit coming to IKEA Croydon is the latest example of us investing in and reimagining our stores to ensure customers and co-workers continue to get the most out of these spaces.” Kim Chin-Sung, Market Manager for IKEA Croydon

Now operating in over 70 countries, the brand is heading towards a massive milestone: Decathlon’s 50th anniversary in 2026. This new store represents the company’s continued commitment to innovation as it approaches its golden jubilee year.
